What Is Marriott Power of M?

Power of M is Marriott International's portfolio-wide brand standard requiring all properties — both franchise and managed — to implement Mobile Key. Mobile Key allows Marriott Bonvoy loyalty members to use their smartphone as a room key to access guestrooms and common areas including fitness centers, pools, and business centers.

Marriott mandated that all hotels install and activate Mobile Key certified locks in 100% of guest rooms and common areas. Properties that have not yet completed the upgrade — or are upgrading to Key Flow 2 (Enhanced Mobile Key) — require a certified GPNS LSP to configure the network correctly.

Symmetry I.T. is a certified GPNS Licensed Service Provider (LSP) with direct experience configuring all five Marriott-defined network types and all four certified lock vendors.

Our Scope

Everything Your Property Needs

From initial network assessment to post-activation monitoring — we manage the full Mobile Key upgrade lifecycle.

GPNS Network Assessment

Full audit of your current network type — GPNS EIBO, Enhanced, FLI, or Marriott — and gap analysis against Mobile Key 2.0 requirements.

Key Lock Server Configuration

On-network or off-network Key Lock server setup for Assa Abloy (Ving), Dormakaba (Saflok), Onity, and Miwa certified systems.

VLAN & Firewall Setup

Proper VLAN segmentation (VLAN 841, 200, 201, 300, 301, 802) and ACL/firewall rules including TCP port 9090 from PMS to Key Lock server.

Mobile Key Flow 2 Activation

End-to-end Key Flow 2 (Enhanced Mobile Key) deployment — IP interface replacing legacy serial connections, supporting contactless arrival.

HSIA & Guest Network Compliance

High-speed internet access configuration meeting Marriott GPNS standards alongside mobile key network segments.

ServiceNow Ticket Management

We handle the Marriott ServiceNow (Managed Network Services) ticket submission to authorize PMS-to-Key Lock server traffic routing.

Mobile Key Architecture

Key Flow 1 vs. Key Flow 2

1

Key Flow 1 — Legacy

  • Serial connection between Key Lock server and PMS
  • Remains standard for Opera and Marriott FSPMS
  • No longer deployed for FOSSE or Lightspeed (from 2021)
  • Can use serial or IP connection
2

Key Flow 2 — Enhanced Mobile Key

  • IP interface via TCP port 9090 (replaces serial)
  • Required for FOSSE and Lightspeed PMS from 2021
  • Streamlined contactless arrival experience
  • Foundation for Self-Service Arrival kiosk
  • Unidirectional PMS → Key Lock server communication
